0.63ct Pear Shape Green Tanzanite
This stone is a 0.63ct pear shaped green tanzanite. Lovers of tanzanite know that tanzanites are known for their rich deep blue-purple colors. Very rarely tanzanite is found in colors other than blue/purple. We have been fortunate to obtain a few very unusual green tanzanites. These stones come from the Merelani Hills in Tanzania. These stones would make exceptional and unique jewelry and would be an amazing addition to your gemstone collection.
Tanzanite is most often found as the blue variety of the mineral Zoisite, found the Merelani Hills near Arusha, Tanzania. Gem quality tanzanite has only been found in this remote location of East Africa. Tanzanite is a trichroic gemstone, meaning that it shows three colors down its different axis, making orienting the rough before cutting very important. Like tsavorite, tanzanite is a newly discovered gemstone, first found in the 1960s. Tiffany & Company recognized that this amazing blue stone would become an international seller and quickly became its main distributor. Tanzanites popularity has grown steadily ever since. Many Tanzanites are heat treated to produce colors ranging from a soft pale blue through to vibrant dark violetish blue and even blueish purple. Rich, deep hues are the most valued but it is rare to find those colors in stones less than 4ct.
Tanzanites are found in Northeast Tanzania.
Tanzanites measure about a 6 - 7 on Mohs hardness scale.
Tanzanites have a refractive index of about 1.69 - 1.77.
Care and Cleaning:
It is recommended to clean your tanzanites with warm, soapy water. Ultrasonic and steam cleaning should never be used on a tanzanite. Due to its hardness and cleavage, special care will need to be given to tanzanite jewelry that is worn daily.
