31.54ct Gem Blue Apatite
This stone is a one-of-a-kind 31.54ct blue apatite. It is a true blue color and an amazingly clean cushion cut gemstone. It was mined in Madagascar in 2014 and we have never seen another stone quite like this one!
Apatite often forms in pegmatite deposits along with tourmaline but is even more rare to find. Large clean Apatite gems such as this one are a very rare find. The hardness of apatite is 5 on the Mohs scale, which makes it less suitable for jewelry than harder gems. Steel has a hardness of 6 and tanzanite has a hardness of 6.5-7. Therefore most apatite used in jewelry is set in pendants or rings with a bezel surround to protect the stone. This is a museum quality collectible gem.
